Top Anti-aging Treatments That Actually WorkMy search for the mythical fountain of youth may have hit a roadblock. All I can hope for now is to age gracefully like fine wine. Modern aesthetics has given us the chance to be able to reverse most of these and have us looking 30 in our 50s.  Hop on the bandwagon and try out these top anti-ageing treatments that will leave you feeling and looking your best.

Top Anti-aging Treatments You Should Consider Trying Out

1. Ultherapy

I would love it if I didn’t have to try too much to get the perfect selfie angle for the gram and be able to flex with a strong jawline popping in every picture. Ultherapy treatment is a non-invasive (no scalpels or needles involved) anti-ageing treatment that reverses any signs of ageing you might have. The treatment is considered more of an uplift than a facelift.

A device known as an Ulthera system is used, which works by emitting controlled heat energy when placed on the targeted area. This heat penetrates the skin inflicting thermal injury up to 4.5 millimetres deep in the skin. This, in turn, encourages the production of collagen and elastin. The procedure may take anywhere from 40minutes to 2hours depending on how big the area you are looking to tighten is. You can treat your brows (no more frown lines or are they happy lines?), jowls, cheeks, chin or the chest décolleté. Ultherapy takes between three to six months to show results. And the pro is you will literally wake up with a new face one morning and probably not be able to pass a mirror without looking at yourself.

2. Dermal Fillers

As time goes by, people are becoming more aware of the big role hyaluronic acid products play in our lives. These come in the form of injectables like dermal fillers. Fillers is another one of the top anti-ageing treatments, and are mainly used for eliminating deep wrinkles, lip augmentation, reducing fine lines, collagen stimulation and deep tissue restoration of volume and correction on any area that has lost volume. The dermal fillers have a high concentration of Hyaluronic acid (HA). Hyaluronic acid is widely used in medicine because it is biocompatible and biodegradable, which is the right component for dermal fillers.

3. Hollywood Peel

During my occasional researches on top anti-ageing treatments, I stumbled on the Carbon laser facial, which is a beauty skin treatment. The treatment has quickly gained popularity as one of the top go-to non-invasive, lunch-hour skin treatments for celebrities hence the name, Hollywood Peel. The Carbon laser facial incorporates the use of a laser on a medical carbon cream layer applied on the skin. The carbon cream is quite black in colour. This carbon cream layer acts as a photo-enhancer, which vaporizes when it comes in contact with a specific laser (Q-switched Laser which is a state-of-the-art laser machine that delivers targeted high-intensity pulses of light to the skin.) While at it, the carbon takes with it a very thin layer of skin, leaving your skin glowing with a youthful complexion. The Hollywood peel boasts of treating imperfections such as uneven skin tone, wrinkles and fine lines, shine and oiliness, acne and acne scarring, enlarged pores and stimulating the lymphatic drainage.

4. Microneedling

Top Anti-aging Treatments That Actually WorkWhat if I told you that you could literally minimize wrinkles, treat acne scars, stimulate thinning hair, reduce stretch marks or reverse ageing through causing controlled micro-injuries? I would like to have the honour of introducing you to Microneedling.  This treatment known as collagen induction therapy works by penetrating the upper layer of your skin with micro-needles. This causes micro-wounds that naturally produce new elastin and collagen which fill these micro punctured wounds. Amazing right? I would encourage having the treatment done by a qualified medical practitioner in a safe environment. A session usually lasts anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the surface area of the body part you want to be treated. You may need at least two or three sessions but it all depends on what you are trying to achieve.

5. Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing takes the cake when it comes to top anti-ageing treatments and treating skin issues such as acne, scars, wrinkles and uneven skin tone. Laser skin resurfacing treatment is a proven way that makes the skin more firm and younger-looking by removing a layer of the skin with precision, leaving behind new and better skin cells to form. The common types of lasers used in the treatment are Erbium and CO2 lasers. They vaporize the skin cells damaged at the surface level which promotes collagen regeneration. Erbium can be ablative (it targets deeper skin problems) and non-ablative which is perfect for getting rid of wrinkles, sunspots and fine lines. CO2 is an ablative laser and is usually used for targeting warts and scars. The treatment is an outpatient procedure and may take about 30 to 45 minutes if your target area is only parts of your face, and up to 2 hours if it is a full-face treatment. Targeted areas may take 10 to 21 days to heal depending on the issue treated.

6. Botox Treatment

Botox has nowadays become a common household name as most people (both men and women) have become more educated regarding the injections. Did you know that Botox is the brand name of a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and when used in large amounts can cause botulism, which is a form of muscle paralysis, usually associated with food poisoning? Thanks to the scientists, they have managed to find a way of using it to human advantage.  Botox injections are used to relax muscles on the forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines, chin (for dimpling), skin bands on the neck, and around the mouth. It can also be used to treat migraines, an overactive bladder and sometimes injected into the armpits to treat severe sweating. The injections last anywhere from 3 to 6 months. It is key to make sure the injector is a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon familiar with the latest techniques of Botox injections.
