Summer Skincare Tips for Oily Skin

Summer skincare tips for oily face1People with oily skin suffer quite a lot during summer, and that’s why we have summer skincare tips.  A bit of natural oil on your skin is considered good because it keeps your skin moisturized, meaning fewer wrinkles. But when your skin overproduces this oil, then it goes from being an anti-aging benefit to being a bother.  And when this happens during summer, it goes from being a bother to something worse.

I am one of those people who have extremely oily skin (hence the summer skincare tips). When it’s summertime in Dubai, the humidity levels are always very high, with temperatures hovering north of 40°C. This seems to give my oily skin the permission to be on its worst behavior. For instance, if the air conditioning is not set at below 20°C, my face looks like a doughnut straight out of the frying pan; it is that oily. So I have developed a habit of always blotting my face every few minutes regardless if it’s oily or not (just a habit).

So to try and have this greasy situation under control, I set out to do some research on the best summer skincare tips out there; that’s if getting rid of it for good is out of the question. Just to note, if you have oily skin, it is as a result of your sebaceous glands becoming a bit large, which means excess oil production (good to know).

This oily skin can be caused by a number of things including genetics (thanks mummy), birth control, high-stress levels (I’m always a cool cucumber), hormonal changes, weather, medications, and some heavy cosmetics.

Go-to Summer Skincare Tips
Washing your face twice a day

I have been washing my face twice a day for a while now, but what I never realized is that I should wash my face with warm water in order to break up the oil and open the pores, then splash cold water again to close the pores. Sounds very doable!

Go Oil-Free

If a cosmetic is labeled ‘for oily skin’ it means that it is mostly water based (though I can’t testify to all of them). Taking this seriously and moving from your current cosmetics to oil-free ones is a good step towards an oily-free face. Try these anti-aging tips for your skin.

Alcohol wipes

I always have a bunch of these babies in my desk drawer but I never thought of using them. But then again, they are handier when you are on the move.

Reassess your birth control

If you are using a birth control method that you think is causing your doughnut face, go back to your general practitioner and request for a different type; it might just work some magic.

Stress Less

If you think getting stressed causes your face to sweat oil, then it is time to relax. Take up some yoga classes, or go do whatever it is that relaxes you; like hula hooping. Just remember, nothing good ever came out of stressing over stress; just an oily face. Namaste.

Try lemon juice

This is what I call the magic fruit. You can drink it as well as use it as a natural skin care remedy. Just squeeze a few drops of lemon juice onto a cotton ball then apply on your face. Rinse after 15 minutes and discover an oil-free face.

Finally, if you just want a non-oily face without going through all the hassle, just walk around with oil-blotting tissues and blot away whenever you feel ‘oily’. Just know that you will also be blotting away your make-up little by little (this has never stopped me), but sometimes it’s worth it.
