Common Cellulite Myths and Misconceptions Busted

Cellulite Myths and Misconceptions Busted & How Orange Peel Skin is a Way of LifeCellulite is one of those things that most us wish we didn’t have. I don’t know about you but I have come to sort of accept my orange peel skin thighs, and I tend to ignore them as much as I can. One thing I have realized is that whenever the C-talk starts, some people get shocked when I say I actually have some. Reason? They say I’m a bit slim to have cellulite! And this is one of the reasons I have decided to bust some of these cellulite myths.

Most of us (or just me) have trodden down the path of trying some over-priced creams and gels, the natural remedies and dug deep into our pockets at spas. And to tell you the truth, so far what I’ve come to realize is that you can’t banish cellulite. The only thing you can do is reduce its appearance. Even some of the cosmetic procedures like Mesotherapy, fractional laser, Microneedling, and liposuction, which people think work wonders, they don’t; some of them just reduce the appearance of the beloved orange peel skin. And that’s that.

So Let’s Get to Busting Some Common Cellulite Myths

Liposuction Can Completely Get Rid of Cellulite

Cellulite Myths and Misconceptions Busted & How Orange Peel Skin is a Way of LifeWhat’s lipo in the first place? Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is used to get rid of stubborn body fat from different areas of the body. Knowing this, it would be understandable if someone thought that having lipo would get rid of their cellulite. Actually, it’s quite the opposite. Recent research shows that liposuction makes it worse. This is because after a lipo procedure, depending on your lifestyle, there can be an uneven distribution of body fat leading to more hills and valleys. This is one of those cellulite myths that I come across quite often. Oh and one more thing, liposuction is not for weight loss, it’s for body contouring (I’ll explain that in a future post).

 Thin People Don’t Have Cellulite

Well, I am a serious living proof that this is one of those cellulite myths that people need to stop spreading. Cellulite is not for curvy people only; even those of us who seem to have only a single digit percentage of fat in our bodies also carry that badge of honor. It just happens to be more pronounced on people with a bit of flesh on their bones than us lean ones.

Men do Not Get Dimpled Skin

I agree that women are more often than not predisposed to getting the precious dimpled skin compared to men, but that does not mean men are safe from the orange peel monster. They also get it but it’s just less common. This is all thanks to their thinner layer of subcutaneous fat and denser layers of connective tissues, leading to an overall thick skin layer, which makes it hard to develop cellulite.

Toxins Cause Orange Peel Skin

Cellulite Myths and Misconceptions Busted & How Orange Peel Skin is a Way of LifeWell, cellulite appears when subcutaneous fat pushes through some layers of collagen fibers found underneath the skin. So there’s no way toxins could leave you well enough to embrace your cellulite. Just like men’s skin fibers are thicker than those of women, which is why they do not get them that much.

Weight Loss Will Get Rid of Dimpled Skin

Not really. Again, it’s not the amount of fat inside your body that leads to orange peel skin. It is the action of some fat that pushes through connective tissues that lead to the appearance of dimples on your thighs or butt. The only thing that will happen to your orange peel skin if you lost weight is to reduce it. But then that again will depend on how you are losing the weight. If you are exercising, you will definitely create more muscle and firm up your skin which is great for cellulite reduction, while dieting without exercise won’t do much to reduce it.

All in all, never be embarrassed about your cellulite. With the cellulite myths busted, it’s time you embraced the orange peel skin tightly with both cheeks and told it how much you would never miss the dimples just in case they woke up one day and decided to up and disappear.
