Microneedling Skin Treatment: Another Hollywood Beauty Secret

Microneedling – Another Hollywood Beauty Secret

Microneedling Skin Treatment: Another Hollywood Beauty SecretWhen it comes to skin beauty, there are a lot of things done by dermatologists that will surprise you, and Microneedling skin treatment is one of them. Your skin’s anti-aging collagen production is literally stimulated by causing controlled micro-injuries to it! This process is said to reverse aging, minimize wrinkles, treat acne scars and even stimulate hair growth.

Microneedling skin treatment is one of the most innovative facial rejuvenation procedure, and when I look at the before and after photos, I can easily believe it. This treatment, which is also known as collagen induction therapy, works by penetrating the upper layer of your skin with micro-needles (ouch). Not so fast with the ‘ouch’ because the “pricking” is controlled, but it still causes micro-wounds that naturally produce new collagen and elastin, to fill these micro punctured wounds.

According to one Cosmetologist and anti-aging expert at my favorite cosmetic surgery clinic, Microneedling skin treatment is a natural skin rejuvenation and anti-aging treatment that sorely uses a person’s own collagen. The treatment does not require injection of any foreign substances into the body but in some instances, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is used (I will tell you all about it and the role it plays in anti-aging in a different post).

Why you should have a Microneedling Skin Treatment

Before moving on, my advice would be to have the treatment done by a qualified medical practitioner in a safe environment because you just never know. Anyway, this treatment is used to make right a number of skin issues ranging from stretch marks, wrinkles, acne scars, micro-pigmentation, sun damage, and hair thinning.

I have not tried the treatment yet, but if I were to ever consider micro-puncturing my skin, it would be to lessen the appearance of my stretch marks, which seem to be just gloating at me more and more lately. So I asked the skin specialist the best thing about this skin beauty treatment, and this is what she had to say.

Microneedling has very minimal, if any, chances of causing any allergies.

The reason behind this is that you will be using your own skin’s collagen without introducing any foreign matter that might lead to an allergic reaction.

The pain or discomfort experienced is quite minimal

In my opinion, this is a bit debatable because it depends on ones pain thresh hold. According to this specialist, Microneedling therapy causes very little pain. But for chickens like me, a topical anesthesia can be applied before starting to micro-injure your skin (phew).

Microneedling can be used on most areas of the body

Most folks assume the treatment is only reserved for the face but that is not true. It can be used on your other body parts like thighs (that’s where most of my stretch marks lark), butt, back, hips, stomach, scalp and also the arms.

Microneedling skin treatment doesn’t leave any scarring; at least after everything has settled down.

It might sound a bit untrue considering the treatment works by micro puncturing the skin; Microneedling therapy does not leave any scars behind due to its less invasive properties. It manages to naturally regenerate collagen and elastin without a single scar and instead leaves behind a healthier and more younger-looking skin (after the redness has disappeared).

It has zero downtime

Since the micro-puncturing on the skin is controlled, it, as a result, causes controlled injury which is very minimal. And as mentioned above, no scarring which means zero downtime.

Just in case you consider going for the treatment, give yourself ample time, because one session can last anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the surface area of the body part that you want to be treated. And if you are a chicken like me, add 30 minutes for the topical anesthesia to settle in before the lovely skin specialists start Microneedling you.

To achieve maximum benefits, you may require at least two to three sessions of the needling, but I have heard some patients (my colleague) say a difference can be seen after one day. I guess it all depends on what you are trying to achieve.

The skin specialist said that she uses Dermapen 3, which is a Microneedling skin rejuvenation device which has 11 micro-needles that do the puncturing.

  2. I’ve been wanting to get some micro needling services for my sister. She was talking to me about how much she wants micro needling, and how there isn’t any down time like you mentioned as well. I’m going to have to look for a few good micro needling services and see what our options are!

  3. That sounds great! Just take all the precautions and everything will be great. 😉
