Well-chosen decorative items charm our homes and can take any shape or form. And although their visual appeal is undoubtedly pivotal, home accessories must also be functional. When selecting accessories for your home, why not approach it in a similar fashion to your attire? Well, you might not know this, but home accessories are quite important, and this creative guru (Mr. Medy), is sharing with us just how important each item is.
Importance of Home Accessories
Artwork
The right artwork or even a quote on a wall is a statement of our beliefs and or personal taste. These can be a very powerful tool to lift a room. A sculpture can also have a similar effect, expressing our love in forms and shapes. Our homes talk to us and others by the variety of accessories and soft decoration we place carefully in each part of it. A little tip – don’t rush it. Take all the time you need to find the right piece, especially with art. The perfect decorated home is never perfect and never finished. It’s constantly evolving like our journeys.
Mirrors
I love mirrors; they can be so striking and create wonderful effects in the room. Depending on the theme and feel of your room, you can find mirrors in a million different styles to really enhance the atmosphere. Be it a modern brushed gold frame, an ornate brass Elizabethan style or rustic timber, you can find an amazing mirror for any room. They are also great in dark rooms (reflecting the little light there might be) and help create the illusion of space in small rooms. (PS: My space has quite the collection of mirrors).

Rugs
Rugs are also wonderful home accessories and can bring a splash of color to create warmth, or neatly frame a particular space, such as a lounge area or cozy corner. Again, depending on the style of your room you can go for grand Persian rugs, shabby-chic woven rugs in rustic tones or plush shag-pile which not only looks great but feels fantastic under the feet. Select your rug based on your style of furniture, the options are endless, but be sure to keep it warm and inviting.
Lamps
I have said this before, but lights and lamps are also key home accessories. They have the ability to cast beautiful mood lighting into the right places and can enliven dark corners to create a new sense of perspective in the room. Dispersing light effectively is key, and you can achieve the effect you want through the right choice of a lampshade, both in its structure and fabric or material. Statement furniture is beautifully illuminated with the right choice of table or standing lamp. They can create a spotlight effect and add depth and mood.

Cushions
Throw cushions are of course also very important home accessories. They can tie together a color scheme as they sit in the prominent position of the lounge or bed, and if the room itself feels quite stark due to a lot of white or neutral colors, colorful cushions or cushions with interesting patterns will add accents to the room.
