What can we expect in 2018? The ever-evolving world of technology, climate change, and the current political situation has made us realize that we need to adjust our frames of reference. And as a result, we are innovating and ‘radically reframing’ existing solutions. That said, in the world of flowers and plants, the social trends towards a radical reframing are being expressed in three floral style trends. These are the quest for fresh color, equilibrium (using unusual materials), and the new rules of the game when mixing florals.

AMATO, which means ‘beloved’ in Italian, is UAE’s first global designer brand that has earned itself an international cult following – from royalty to international celebrities. Also, the AMATO Couture happens to be the brainchild of the much-awarded creative designer Furne One, who partnered with textile expert Rashid Ali, to build this Avant Garde label. From the very first unconventional yet outstandingly chic collection, AMATO Couture touched a chord with regional and international fashion elites from Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks to singing sensations such as Beyonce, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Nicki Minaj, just to name a few. And, if you are as curious as we are about AMATO and the icon behind it, then worry not, because the man himself is giving us an inside snippet on AMATO Couture and himself.
Yeah yeah yeah, it’s that time again, and I can already feel some of you rolling your eyes muttering ‘cupid is stupid’, while the rest of you get excited. Yes, Valentine’s Day! It’s the one day (or week, even month), most of us love to hate, but we just can’t. And while a big chunk of you will be receiving a gift or two from their dear ones, it would not hurt to pamper yourself with a gift that resonates with your inner self; something in the lines of fine jewelry. And since we’re all about making things easier for you, we’re sharing some fierce jewelry pieces from AUrate New York’s new collection (out of the box kind of thing), which we are sure you will love. After all, it’s not always about what you wear, but how you wear it (or so they say).
Did you know that feeding your body with certain foods can help boost your immune system? And to make it even better, these immune-boosting foods are not exotic, meaning you don’t have to travel through snow, ice and ivory castles to get to them. They are everyday foods that you can easily find at your local grocery store; and might I add, not that hard on the pocket. The nice folks at Fitness First have partnered with Pura to bring us the best everyday immune-boosting foods to keep our bodies well protected.
The coloring-in book phenomena has brought adult “art as therapy” to almost every bookshop in the world. The trend is led by Scottish illustrator Johanna Basford – her book Secret Garden has achieved sales exceeding 10 million units across 40 countries. In China alone, Basford’s book sold 3 million copies in its first three months after its publication there in 2015. Whilst the trend has cooled since its peak in 2016, the adult coloring-in trend is still very prevalent and has been instrumental in the revitalization of physical book sales and the slow-down of e-book sales. Even at my own stores (Gallery One) in the Gulf region, we have sold several thousand copies of Basford’s titles.
It is estimated that around 20% of all adults get varicose veins at some point in their lives, according to the US National Library of Medicine. And although it is prevalent in older people, if you don’t seek varicose veins treatment at an early stage, the condition can cause painful and debilitating effects from swelling in the legs.
Flower trends keep changing year after year, or season after season. Also, people’s tastes seem to alter constantly, depending on the occasion that is calling for these flowers. And since most of us who appreciate (or don’t mind giving) a unique bouquet once in a while like to stay in the know of what 2018 has in store in terms of flower trends, we had the nice folks from Forever Rose (or Bella Rose) share what flower trends lie ahead this year, in addition to the flower types, floral arrangements, and colors you’ll be seeing quite often.
