Anti-aging Tips for a Youthful Skin

Anti-aging tips for a youthful skinSometimes I find myself wondering about the best route to beautiful and youthful skin. Of course you can achieve this anti-aging look with make-up and all; which I do sometimes, but I am talking about getting off the shower, staring in the mirror and seeing skin that is acne-free, scar-free, wrinkle-free and many other ‘frees’ associated with the skin.

I like certain anti-aging therapies and skin treatments as well as natural remedies for the skin. And I work with whatever seems to be working. Some people are willing to dig deep into their pockets for that anti-aged youthful skin, while others are not; and at the same time, people like me are stuck in the middle, still wondering.

After all, it is people like you and me who have made the beauty industry a multi-trillion dollar empire with all those anti-aging creams, clinical procedures, and cosmetics. Truth be told, most of us (or I in this matter) are on the search for the perfect and youthful skin.

I spoke to my usual medical aesthetician and skin specialist, Lola Ali Muhammad, on what I can do to achieve anti-aging perfection, or rather delay aging for as long as possible, and she gave me great anti-aging tips that can work for everybody; regardless your bank account status.

Here are anti-aging tips for a youthful skin
Start early

The sooner you start taking care of your skin, the better. According to research, our skins start aging in our mid-twenties. What does this mean? If you do not have a skin care regimen thinking that the youth in youthful will last into your 40s, then you might start looking double your age before you are there. At this point in life, the best tip is to have an exfoliating and moisturizing skin care routine to maintain a supple skin.

Let water be your best buddy

Anti-aging tips for a youthful skinIf a youthful, healthy and well-hydrated skin is your ultimate goal, then drinking water should become a reflex. All you have to do is make it a routine to drink so much glasses of water per day, then your skin will thank you for it. And if plain old water is too boring, you can try hydrating with coconut water, which has amazing benefits. As for me, I would be lying if I said I drink the recommended amount of water per day. But I drink lots of liquids; from mugs of green tea to lemon water with ginger, and grapes, lots of grapes, and I hope that amounts to something.

Get Fishy

Well, not in that sense but by consuming fish oil, or increasing your intake. Apparently these omega-3 fatty acids contain anti-inflammatory agents, which prevent our skin from premature aging and delaying the onset of age for as long as possible. If you don’t like fishy food, you can switch to the fishy oil supplements. That’s what yours truly takes, because fish is just not my thing.

Sleep a little bit more

If you have no clue what else lack of sleep does to your body other than weight gain, then we are here to tell you. It makes you look old and tired with a skin that looks very dull. Ohhh it can also lead to acne breakouts, which we all know can leave some stubborn acne scars. Good news is that you can avoid all these by just getting enough sleep – say eight hours a night?

Broad spectrum sunscreen to the rescue

Anti-aging tips for a youthful skinIt is important for you to know that your skin is never beyond sun-damage. This is because UV rays penetrate through most things to reach you, with the sole purpose of causing sun-damage. So, even if you are hiding in the shade, in the car, using an umbrella or there’s just no visible sun, just know it’s still going to cause damage. And this might lead to skin pigmentation and premature aging, if you are not wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen.

Sweat it out

Exercise is not restricted to bettering our bodies and minds; but for the skin as well. As you sweat it out, toxins are flushed out of your system through sweating. And also boosts blood flow. This leaves your skin looking fresh.

Home remedies and natural oils can also be of help to your skin, especially when it comes to skin beauty.
