6 Foods you Should be Eating for Healthy Hair Growth

hair growth foodsI guess I’m right when I say that nobody wants thinning brittle hair or worse, losing your precious hair. Apart from hair loss treatments, hair growth conditioners and shampoos, and supplements, eating right would be the next best thing to kick hair loss to the curb and grow a healthy mane. Your everyday diet plays a big role in the health of your hair, and there are some amazing hair growth foods you should include in your diet if you want that luscious head of hair.

Hair Growth Foods Linked to Healthy Hair

Flax seeds

Flax seeds have a high concentration of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids which is great news not only for the skin but also for the hair. Apart from that, they are also rich in unsaturated fats like the mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids. These properties make flax seeds one of the leading hair growth foods available.

Chilies

Yes, believe it or not, chilies do play a role on how our hair looks, and this is not because I love having my food with a spicy kick. Luscious hair needs a healthy circulation system and chilies get that blood pumping. They also contain Vitamin C and capsaicin, which helps in a lot of body functions. If chilies are not your thing try cinnamon as they also promote circulation. Check out the health benefits of peppers.

Lentils

Lentils are packed with proteins and our hair is literally made of proteins. Not getting enough proteins can lead to brittle hair. Lentils are also a great source of vegan protein and are also rich in fiber and iron. So the next time you see lentil soup on the menu as a starter, make sure you jump on it.

 Kale

This leafy green vegetable helps in preventing the body from becoming overly acidic, because of its alkaline nature. Having high acidity levels in the body causes some dysfunction in the body as well as the hair. Kale is also rich in minerals and is full of iron and vitamin B which is needed by the hair to grow.

 Avocado

Avocado is one of my favorite foods and not because it’s one of the best hair growth foods, but because it’s just yummy.  This delicious fruit is full of monounsaturated fats which give hair its shine and luster. The great thing about avocado is that it works at a cellular level to improve hair texture, dullness, and growth. They are also full of potassium, vitamin B, fiber and oleic acid. See also why you should be eating avocados.

Eggs

Well, like I mentioned in a previous post, I have come to love boiled eggs as a mid-morning snack. In addition to this, it’s because they contain healthy fats like omega 3 which are great for the hair. They are also full of proteins, biotin, B12, iron, folic acid and choline which helps the hair by improving shine, avoiding premature graying, thinning and dullness. Apart from this, they also increase good cholesterol (HDL) in the body.

As usual, before jumping on these hair growth foods, make sure you are not allergic to them. In addition, if you are seriously losing your hair, visit a trichologist to know why, because sometimes we tend to lose more than just the hair.
